David Sutherland

David M Sutherland grew up in Louisiana and moved to the Delmarva region in 1985. In 2002, David moved to Queenstown, Maryland, where he currently resides with his wife Carrie and 2 daughters. His passion for the outdoors and our natural resources has framed his professional and personal life.

David has worked in the conservation industry for almost 25 years. He currently serves as Volunteer Chairman of the Maryland Sportsmen’s Foundation and runs businesses in land conservation, renewable energy and the oil and gas service industry. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S in Business with a focus on economics.

David directed a national conservation real estate program that protected more than 4.3 million acres in the United States while also focusing on protecting our natural resource based industries. He has been recognized for his accomplishments through receipt of the Chevron Conservation Award and being named the Maryland Wildlife Conservationist of the Year.

David has always enjoyed serving the fine state of Maryland to improve our natural resource based industries; such as the commercial and recreational hunting and fishing industries. He was appointed Chairman of the Governor’s Commission to Protect the Chesapeake Bay through Sustainable Forestry under the Ehrlich Administration. He also was appointed to the Resource Based Industries Task Force for Governor O’Malley’s Transition Team.

He looks forward to helping DFA as people and organizations must work together through honest dialogue to achieve a healthier Bay and natural resource based economy.
